Southeastern vs Indian Hills
OTTUMWA, Iowa (Interstat) — In a tightly contested men’s junior college basketball game on Saturday, February 14, 2026, the Indian Hills Warriors used a more efficient offensive performance to hold off the Southeastern Blackhawks 72-66.
The game, a rematch of a January 10 contest also won by Indian Hills, saw the Warriors improve to 21-2 overall while Southeastern fell to 13-8.
The most critical phase of the game occurred in the final minutes of the second quarter. After Southeastern’s Prophet Fields scored on consecutive layups to tie the game at 69 with 20 seconds remaining, Indian Hills responded immediately. Mason Costello converted a dunk off an inbound pass with 11 seconds left to put the Warriors ahead 71-69.
Southeastern’s Kalvyne Eby was then fouled on the ensuing possession and made two free throws to tie the game at 71 with five seconds left. On the final possession, Southeastern’s Khalyn William-Thomas committed a foul on Indian Hills’ Taj Au-Duke with four seconds remaining. Au-Duke made the first free throw to break the tie and, after a Southeastern timeout, made the second to provide the final margin. A last-second three-point attempt by Southeastern’s Jaleel Donley missed as time expired.
The game was characterized by contrasting styles. Southeastern struggled with its overall shooting, making only 20 of 54 field goal attempts. However, the Blackhawks stayed competitive through exceptional free-throw shooting, converting 22 of 23 attempts, and by forcing 17 Indian Hills turnovers.
Indian Hills countered with superior efficiency, shooting 21 of 43 from the floor and 7 of 15 from three-point range. The Warriors also dominated in the paint and capitalized on their trips to the free-throw line, attempting 32 free throws and making 23. Despite committing more turnovers, Indian Hills’ ability to score 72 points on just 69 possessions proved decisive.
KJ LaMonte led Indian Hills with 18 points and seven assists, consistently penetrating the defense and drawing fouls. Xavier Wilson provided a key spark off the bench with 10 points and six rebounds, including several impactful dunks. Chaz Watson added 11 points, all in the first quarter, to help establish an early pace.
For Southeastern, Prophet Fields led the scoring with 15 points, while Khalyn William-Thomas added 14 points and seven rebounds. Kalvyne Eby contributed eight rebounds and was perfect from the free-throw line in his 13 minutes.
The first quarter set a back-and-forth tone, with Indian Hills taking a 35-31 lead into the break after a late layup by LaMonte. The second quarter saw multiple ties and lead changes, with neither team able to build a substantial advantage. Indian Hills’ largest lead was nine points, while Southeastern’s biggest advantage was two points early in the contest.
Indian Hills next hosts Mineral Area on Wednesday. Southeastern travels to face Highland (Ill.) on the same night.
