Southeastern vs Indian Hills
OTTUMWA, Iowa (Interstat) — A men’s junior college basketball showdown with postseason implications is set for Saturday when the No. 1-ranked Indian Hills Warriors host the Southeastern Blackhawks.
The Warriors (20-2), one of the nation’s elite teams, will put their dominant record on the line against a surging Southeastern squad (13-7) seeking a statement road victory. Tipoff is Feb. 14 at the Hellyer Center.
Indian Hills, riding high after a 108-61 rout of Marshalltown on Feb. 7, boasts a potent offense. A key contributor is guard Mason Costello, who exploded for 23 points in just 22 minutes in that win. The Warriors’ only two losses this season came against top-tier competition, including a narrow 84-78 defeat to Mineral Area on Dec. 13.
Southeastern enters with momentum, having won five of its last six games. The Blackhawks’ recent success is fueled by guard Prophet Fields, a versatile playmaker. Over his last seven games, Fields has averaged 12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists, providing steady all-around production. In the team’s 72-67 win over Triton on Feb. 7, Fields logged 39 minutes with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
This matchup is a rematch of a Jan. 10 contest, which Indian Hills won 68-61 on Southeastern’s home floor. The Blackhawks will look to avenge that loss and disrupt the Warriors’ formidable home-court advantage.
The game features a contrast in styles: Indian Hills’ high-scoring attack, which has topped 100 points three times this season, against a Southeastern team that has grinded out several tight victories, including 70-68 and 72-67 wins in its last two outings.
A Southeastern win would significantly bolster its national resume, while Indian Hills aims to continue its march toward a top seed in the upcoming NJCAA tournament.
