Southern-Shreveport Edges Delgado in Tight Men’s Junior College Contest
SHREVEPORT, La. (Interstat) — Andre Thomas scored 15 points, including a critical free throw with one second remaining, to lift the Southern-Shreveport Jaguars to a 64-61 men’s junior college basketball victory over the Delgado Dolphins on Wednesday night.
The Jaguars, who evened their season record at 7-7, held off a persistent Delgado squad that fell to 5-10. Southern-Shreveport built a narrow 26-31 halftime lead and maintained that margin through a second half where neither team led by more than five points.
Tayshaun Gilchrist added 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Jaguars. Delgado was led by Amir Rios with 14 points and seven rebounds. Both teams shot similarly from the floor, but Southern-Shreveport’s 7-of-15 performance from three-point range proved decisive.
