Gulf Coast State vs Northwest Florida State

NICEVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — A pivotal men’s junior college basketball showdown with Panhandle Conference and national implications is set for Wednesday when the Gulf Coast State Commodores visit the Northwest Florida State Raiders.

Both teams enter with nearly identical sterling records. Gulf Coast State is 18-3 overall, while Northwest Florida State sits at 18-4. The Raiders won the first meeting this season, 96-89, on Jan. 21 in Panama City.

That result adds a layer of revenge to an already high-stakes matchup for the Commodores, who have won three straight since that loss. Gulf Coast State is coming off a 76-64 win over Pensacola State on Saturday, led by Trent Lincoln’s 16-point, 10-rebound double-double. Lincoln has been a consistent force and will be a primary focus for the Raiders’ defense.

Northwest Florida State looks to rebound from a 78-69 road loss at Chipola this past Saturday. In that game, Braylon Roman scored 17 points. Roman was instrumental in the first win over Gulf Coast State, dishing five assists in a balanced effort, and has shown high-level playmaking ability throughout the season.

The game features two of the nation’s top NJCAA programs known for their tempo and athleticism. Gulf Coast State’s offensive efficiency, averaging over 80 points per game, will be tested by a Raiders squad that plays tough defense at home.

With the conference race tightening, Wednesday’s winner gains a critical advantage. The teams are scheduled to meet again in Panama City on Feb. 25.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Central time at Raider Arena.
