Harford vs Hagerstown
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Monday when the Hagerstown Hawks host the Harford Fighting Owls in a Maryland JUCO contest.
The game is a rematch of a Jan. 2 nail-biter, which Hagerstown (3-9) won 50-49 on Harford’s home floor. Both teams enter with struggling overall records but recent signs of life. Harford (4-9) has won two of its last five, including an 85-77 road victory at Baltimore City on Jan. 16 and a 110-78 home win over the same opponent on Jan. 12. Hagerstown snapped a five-game skid with a 63-58 home win over Baltimore City on Feb. 4.
Harford will lean on guard Justus Stanton, who is coming off a strong all-around performance in a 103-88 loss to Monroe on Feb. 3. In that game, Stanton logged 33 minutes, scoring 17 points with three rebounds and five assists. He also scored 20 points in the Jan. 16 win at Baltimore City. Supporting cast members Tre Powell (18 points against Monroe) and Tony Pope, who notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists in the same game, provide additional scoring threats.
Hagerstown’s defense, which held Harford under 50 points in the first meeting, will be tested by a Fighting Owls offense that has shown explosiveness, twice topping 85 points in recent wins. The Hawks’ offense has been inconsistent, but found enough production to secure their narrow victory earlier this season.
Following this matchup, Harford’s next game is at home against Harcum on Feb. 24. Hagerstown travels to face Harcum on Feb. 17.
Monday’s tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Hagerstown athletic complex.
