Preview: Andrew Fighting Tigers at Southern Crescent Tigers
COVINGTON, Ga. (Interstat) — Two Georgia junior college men’s basketball teams seeking to halt prolonged slides will meet Saturday when the Andrew Fighting Tigers visit the Southern Crescent Tigers.
The game at Southern Crescent’s campus arena pits teams with a combined 2-18 record this season. Andrew (2-7) has lost two straight, including a 122-72 defeat at South Georgia State on Wednesday. Southern Crescent (0-11) remains winless following an 89-64 loss at Georgia Highlands the same night.
Andrew won the season’s first meeting, 86-81, at home on Jan. 10.
A key matchup will feature Andrew guard Elijah Hightower against Southern Crescent forward Nicholaus Stewart. Hightower is coming off a 25-point performance in 30 minutes during the loss to South Georgia State. Stewart recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds in Southern Crescent’s most recent contest, showcasing the potential he displayed in a 16-point, 9-rebound effort against Gordon State on Jan. 14.
Both teams have struggled defensively. Andrew has allowed an average of 92.4 points in its seven losses, while Southern Crescent has surrendered 90.5 points per game during its winless streak.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the contest is projected to end in a 100-100 tie, suggesting a potentially high-scoring and closely matched affair despite the teams’ records.
For Southern Crescent, the search for its first victory continues at home. Andrew aims to rediscover its early-January form, when it secured both of its wins this season.
