Garden City vs Butler (Kan.)
EL DORADO, Kan. (Interstat) — A surging Butler (Kan.) team will look to protect its home floor and solidify its standing when it hosts a Garden City squad seeking consistency in a key men’s junior college basketball matchup Wednesday night at the Power Plant.
The Grizzly Bears (16-6) enter on a five-game winning streak, including a 99-97 road victory over Fort Hays Tech on Saturday. They have been an offensive force, averaging over 105 points per game during the streak. Sophomore guard Xavier Brown has been a catalyst, scoring 22 and 19 points in his last two outings, respectively.
Butler dominated the first meeting this season, routing the visiting Broncbusters 132-107 on Dec. 3, 2025.
The Garden City Broncbusters (12-8) are coming off a 100-77 home win over Fort Hays Tech but have alternated wins and losses in their last seven games. Forward Nico Doume provides a versatile presence, coming off a 9-rebound, 4-assist performance in the latest win. His activity on the glass will be critical against a high-scoring Butler attack.
The game features a contrast in momentum. Butler has found a rhythm in conference play, while Garden City has struggled to string together victories against top competition. Containing Brown and slowing the Grizzlies’ transition game will be the primary challenge for the Broncbusters, who allow an average of 86.5 points per game.
A Butler win would extend its streak and strengthen its position near the top of the conference standings. A Garden City victory would provide a major resume boost and demonstrate an ability to compete with the league’s elite on the road.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CST Wednesday.
