Ranger vs Hill

RANGER, Texas (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Wednesday when the Ranger College Rangers visit the Hill College Rebels at Bob Bullock Sports Center.

The Rangers (6-12) are coming off a narrow 70-68 home loss to Weatherford on Saturday. The Rebels (1-10), meanwhile, earned their first victory of the season that same day, defeating Grayson 63-60.

Despite their disparate records, a statistical projection from Interstat forecasts a dead-even contest, simulating a 100-100 final score.

Ranger will lean on forward Devin Whitten, who is coming off a strong performance in the loss to Weatherford, posting 16 points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes. Over his last three games, Whitten is averaging 13 points and five rebounds per contest. He was complemented Saturday by Mafatime Ndiaye (15 points) and Jalen Hooks, who grabbed 11 rebounds.

Hill’s breakthrough win over Grayson halted a 10-game skid to open the season. Prior to that victory, the Rebels had struggled offensively, failing to score more than 64 points in any of their previous five games and suffering lopsided defeats, including a 91-44 loss at McLennan on Jan. 28.

The Rangers have shown sporadic promise, with three of their six wins coming at home in close fashion, including an 83-82 victory over Southwestern Christian on Jan. 21. Consistency on the road has been an issue, as evidenced by a 3-7 record away from home.

Wednesday’s matchup is the first of two meetings between the teams this season. They are scheduled to conclude their regular-season series at Ranger on Saturday, March 7.

For Ranger, the game begins a critical three-game road stretch before returning home to face Temple on Feb. 7. Hill continues a three-game homestand and will look to build on its newfound confidence before traveling to face Southwestern Christian on Feb. 11.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST Wednesday at the Bob Bullock Sports Center in Hillsboro.
