Sauk Valley vs Indian Hills
OTTUMWA, Iowa (Interstat) — The Indian Hills Warriors showcased their offensive firepower and a standout performance from Chaz Watson in a decisive 108-77 victory over the Sauk Valley Skyhawks in a men’s junior college basketball game Saturday.
The game was effectively decided by a dominant second-quarter stretch from the Warriors, who turned a competitive opening period into a runaway. After leading 42-32 through one quarter, Indian Hills erupted, outscoring the Skyhawks 66-45 in the second quarter to secure the win.
The most important sequence came early in the second quarter, shortly after Sauk Valley had closed the gap to 44-44. Indian Hills guard Chaz Watson, who finished with a game-high 32 points, ignited a game-breaking run. He connected on consecutive three-pointers, part of a personal 11-point outburst in the quarter’s first four minutes. This sparked a 22-6 surge that stretched the Warriors’ lead to 66-50 and they never looked back, maintaining a lead of at least 16 points for the remainder of the contest.
Watson’s scoring barrage was the centerpiece of an efficient Indian Hills offense. The Warriors shot 49.2 percent from the field and were particularly effective from beyond the arc, making 18 three-pointers on 41 attempts. They also capitalized at the free-throw line, making 26 of 32 attempts. Taj Au-Duke supported Watson with 14 points and 10 assists, while Chiang Ring added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Sauk Valley, which fell to 9-7 overall, was led by Carlos Perez with 16 points and Ed Wiggins with 13 points and eight rebounds. The Skyhawks struggled with ball security, committing 14 turnovers which led to 18 points for Indian Hills. The Warriors, who improved to 18-2, committed only eight turnovers.
Despite the lopsided final score, the game began competitively. Sauk Valley’s Perez hit an early three-pointer to answer an opening three from Indian Hills’ Au-Duke, and the Skyhawks kept pace for much of the first quarter behind 10 points from Perez. However, the Warriors’ depth and sustained offensive pressure, led by Watson’s shooting, proved too much to overcome.
The victory extended Indian Hills’ winning streak and solidified its strong season record. The Warriors’ next game is Wednesday at Triton. Sauk Valley will look to rebound Wednesday at Southeastern.
Statistical models had heavily favored Indian Hills to win, though the final margin exceeded some projections. The Warriors’ offensive rating of 134.7 points per 100 possessions underscored their efficiency, far outpacing Sauk Valley’s rating of 96.9.
