Coffeyville vs Barton

GREAT BEND, Kan. (Interstat) — Aris Rodriguez scored 30 points and the Barton Community College men’s basketball team avenged an earlier loss with a decisive 89-66 victory over Coffeyville on Saturday in a junior college matchup.

The Cougars, improving to 14-8, used a dominant first half to seize control, scoring 41 points in the opening quarter and 48 in the second to build a commanding 89-41 lead by halftime. The Ravens, who fell to 12-8, could not recover from the early deficit despite a 34-point first quarter of their own.

The most critical phase of the game was a decisive 16-2 run by Barton midway through the second quarter that transformed a competitive contest into a blowout. Leading 54-49 with just over 11 minutes remaining, the Cougars unleashed a relentless offensive and defensive surge. The run was fueled by Barton’s stifling defense, which forced five Coffeyville turnovers during the stretch, and the scoring of Rodriguez. The guard contributed six points during the run, including a steal and breakaway dunk that capped the surge and gave Barton a 70-51 lead with 4:41 left in the half, effectively putting the game out of reach.

Rodriguez was efficient throughout, making 13 of his 20 field goal attempts. He added two rebounds, an assist, a block and a game-high four steals. Sebastian Muchitsch supported him with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Majok Chuol and Noah Williams each added 11 points. Jon Byrd facilitated the offense with a game-high seven assists.

Coffeyville was led by Daniel Ntambwe, who posted a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremiah Ibeziako added 11 points and six rebounds off the bench. The Ravens struggled with ball security, committing 20 turnovers which Barton converted into 23 points. The Cougars also held a significant edge in field goal percentage, shooting 55.9% to Coffeyville’s 39.3%.

Barton’s offensive rating of 118.7 points per 100 possessions starkly outperformed Coffeyville’s 88.0, highlighting the efficiency gap. The win split the season series after Coffeyville won the first meeting 84-77 on Nov. 29.

Barton next plays at Hutchinson on Wednesday. Coffeyville returns home to face Cowley, also on Wednesday.
