Coffeyville vs Barton

Preview of Men’s Junior College Basketball: Coffeyville at Barton

GREAT BEND, Kan. (Interstat) — A pivotal men’s junior college basketball matchup is set for Saturday when the Barton Cougars host the Coffeyville Ravens in a contest featuring two teams jockeying for position in the conference standings.

The game, scheduled for Jan. 31, 2026, pits Barton (13-8) against Coffeyville (12-7) in a rematch of a Nov. 29 meeting won by the Ravens, 84-77. Both teams are coming off midweek victories; Barton routed Colby 84-56 on Wednesday, while Coffeyville edged Seward County 73-71.

A key battle will feature two of the region’s top scorers. Coffeyville’s Rashid Kuta, a consistent double-double threat, is averaging 18.1 points and 9.3 rebounds over his last seven games. He posted 22 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Seward County. Barton will counter with guard Aris Rodriguez, who is averaging 18.4 points per game in that same span and is coming off a 24-point performance against Colby.

The Cougars have shown offensive firepower, scoring 84 or more points in four of their last five games, including a 118-point outing earlier this month. However, defensive consistency has been an issue, as evidenced by a 98-94 overtime loss to Cloud County on Jan. 26.

Coffeyville has experienced similar volatility, following a three-game skid with its recent narrow win. The Ravens rely heavily on Kuta’s interior presence and scoring from Jeremiah Lucas, who had 21 points against Seward County.

Barton will look to avenge its early-season loss and protect its home court, while Coffeyville aims to build momentum and sweep the season series. The outcome could have significant implications for postseason seeding as the regular season enters its final month.

Tipoff is set for Saturday at the Barton Gymnasium.
