Daytona State vs Hillsborough

DAYTONA, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Daytona State squad will look to continue its strong Citrus Conference campaign when it visits a struggling Hillsborough team on Saturday, Jan. 31.

The Daytona State Falcons (14-4) enter on a three-game winning streak, including a dominant 76-54 victory over Miami Dade on Wednesday. Adrian Shackleton, a key player to watch for the Falcons, posted 14 points and nine rebounds in that win. Over his last five games, Shackleton is averaging 11.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest, providing consistent production. He is complemented by Noah Mendy, who scored 17 points against Miami Dade, and rim protector Seydina N’Diaye, who blocked six shots.

The Falcons’ offense has been potent, scoring 95 or more points in three of their last five outings. Their only recent blemish was a one-point overtime loss to Florida Southwestern State on Jan. 17.

Conversely, the Hillsborough Hawks (5-6) have had an inconsistent season but are coming off an 81-77 home win over Polk State. Their recent results show a pattern of narrow outcomes, with four of their six losses decided by 10 points or fewer. Player Wylde Correa has seen fluctuating minutes for the Hawks, but logged significant time in two conference games earlier this month, including a 10-point, four-rebound effort in a win at Florida Southwestern State on Jan. 10.

Daytona State won the first meeting between these teams last season. The Falcons will seek to leverage their high-scoring attack and superior record, while the Hawks aim to defend their home court and build momentum from their last victory.

This conference matchup is the first of two between the teams this season, with the rematch scheduled for Monday, March 2, in Daytona Beach.
