Kennedy-King vs Southeastern
WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (Interstat) — The Southeastern Community College Blackhawks look to continue their winning momentum when they host the Kennedy-King College Statesmen in a men’s junior college basketball matchup on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Southeastern (9-7) enters on the heels of a decisive 71-54 victory over Marshalltown on Jan. 24, where sophomore forward Aric Hines led the way with 20 points and five rebounds. Hines has been a key variable for the Blackhawks, posting a 10-point, seven-rebound, three-block performance in a win over Harry S Truman on Jan. 15, but was limited to just two points in a loss to Indian Hills on Jan. 10. His consistency will be a factor against Kennedy-King.
The visiting Statesmen (4-7) snapped a three-game skid with a dramatic 85-84 home victory over Triton on Jan. 20. That narrow win highlighted Kennedy-King’s potential, but consistency has been elusive. Prior to that, they suffered losses to Kankakee (76-60) and a one-point defeat to Richard J. Daley (74-73).
The Blackhawks have shown strength at home this season, including wins over Truman and Marshalltown by an average margin of 18 points in their last two home contests. Kennedy-King, however, has struggled on the road, with notable losses at Malcolm X (95-72) and Highland, Illinois (80-71) earlier this season.
Southeastern holds the advantage in the season series in recent years, but the Statesmen’s resilient win over Triton suggests they can challenge a favored opponent. The Blackhawks will aim to control the interior with Hines, while Kennedy-King will need to replicate the balanced effort that secured their last victory.
Following this game, Southeastern will host Malcolm X on Jan. 31, while Kennedy-King’s next contest is at Wilbur Wright on Feb. 5.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at Loren Walker Arena.
