Gillette vs Laramie County
GILLETTE, Wyo. (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams hovering around .500 will meet Wednesday when the Gillette College Pronghorns visit the Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles.
The Pronghorns (9-8) are coming off a narrow 60-58 home loss to Northwest College on Saturday. The Golden Eagles (9-9) enter on a two-game winning streak, including a 78-64 road victory at Central Wyoming last Wednesday.
A key matchup will feature two of the region’s top scorers. Gillette will lean on guard Sayed Sayed, who is averaging 18.6 points over his last five games, including a 19-point performance in the loss to Northwest. For Laramie County, all eyes will be on guard TJ Coulter, who is coming off a spectacular 37-point, 6-assist effort against Central Wyoming. Coulter has scored 25 or more points in three of his last five contests.
Both teams have shown recent resilience. Gillette won an overtime game against Central Wyoming 64-58 on Jan. 17, while Laramie County has won its last two games by an average margin of 16 points after an overtime loss to Northwest on Jan. 15.
The game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the Region IX rivals. They will play again at Gillette on Feb. 21.
For Gillette, secondary production will be crucial after Diabe Bathily (9 points, 8 rebounds) and Jaden Smith (13 points) supported Sayed in the last outing. Laramie County’s Aeremiah Binford, who posted a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) last week, provides a vital interior presence alongside Coulter’s perimeter attack.
Wednesday’s winner will secure a winning record in region play and gain momentum ahead of a critical February schedule. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. MST at the Laramie County Community College gymnasium.
