Coastal Alabama vs Calhoun
Preview: Coastal Alabama Sun Chiefs at Calhoun Warhawks
DECATUR, Ala. (Interstat) — The Calhoun Warhawks look to rebound from a conference loss when they host the struggling Coastal Alabama Sun Chiefs in a men’s junior college basketball game Thursday.
Calhoun (8-5) fell 91-81 at Shelton State on Monday, snapping a three-game win streak. The Warhawks are 5-2 at home this season. Coastal Alabama (2-11) enters on a five-game skid, including an 88-76 home loss to Lawson State on Monday.
A key matchup will feature two of the region’s top scorers. Calhoun guard Jordan Johnson averages 21 points per game over his last two outings, including a 25-point performance at Shelton State. For Coastal Alabama, guard Josh Williams is coming off a season-high 27 points, adding six rebounds and a block in 30 minutes against Lawson State. Williams’ production is vital for a Sun Chiefs team that has allowed 90 or more points in eight of its 11 losses.
The Warhawks have shown offensive potency, scoring 108 and 112 points in victories earlier this month. They will test a Coastal Alabama defense that ranks near the bottom of the conference in points allowed.
Calhoun won the teams’ only meeting last season, 94-73. The Sun Chiefs will seek to reverse that result and find momentum before a rematch in Bay Minette, Alabama, on Feb. 19.
Thursday’s contest is part of a crucial conference stretch for both teams. Calhoun aims to stay above .500 in league play, while Coastal Alabama desperately seeks its first win since Jan. 8.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Central at the Calhoun Gymnasium.
