Gillette vs Eastern Wyoming

GILLETTE, Wyo. (Interstat) — The Gillette College Pronghorns, riding the momentum of an overtime victory, will visit the struggling Eastern Wyoming College Lancers in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Wednesday night.

Gillette (8-7) enters the contest following a hard-fought 64-58 overtime win against Central Wyoming on Saturday. Eastern Wyoming (3-16) seeks to halt a lengthy skid, with its most recent result listed as a November 2021 loss, though it fell to Northwest College 88-65 last Saturday.

The Pronghorns will lean on guard Rashad McCormick, who is coming off a dominant performance. In the win over Central Wyoming, he logged 39 minutes, scoring 24 points with six rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Over his last three full games, McCormick is averaging over 18 points and six rebounds per contest.

Eastern Wyoming’s bright spot has been LaThario Miller Jr., who posted 16 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench in the Lancers’ most recent game.

The teams’ records indicate a stark contrast. Gillette has won three of its last four games, including conference victories over Western Nebraska and Lake Region State earlier this month. The Lancers have found wins scarce, with their last recorded victory coming in a 113-75 rout of Lake Region State on Nov. 29.

The Pronghorns’ offense, which has scored 79 or more points in three of its last four outings, will test an Eastern Wyoming defense that has allowed 102 points in two of its last three games.

This is the first of two scheduled meetings between the Region IX rivals this season. They are slated to play again in Gillette on Feb. 25.
