Caldwell Tech vs Gaston

GASTONIA, N.C. (Interstat) — Two of the region’s hottest junior college men’s basketball teams will clash Wednesday when the Gaston Rhinos host the Caldwell Tech Cobras at Ashbrook High School.

The Rhinos (6-1), whose only loss came by five points at Brunswick last Saturday, look to defend their home court against the high-scoring Cobras (7-3). Gaston’s strength is anchored by forward Kaleb Siler, who is coming off a dominant stretch. In the loss to Brunswick, Siler posted 24 points and 12 rebounds. Three days prior, he had 24 points and 13 rebounds in a 122-73 rout of Denmark Tech.

Caldwell Tech enters with momentum from a potent offensive display, having defeated Cape Fear 112-95 last Saturday. The Cobras have scored 112 or more points in three of their last four games, all victories. Their three losses this season have all come on the road, including an 86-84 defeat at Harcum and an 83-66 loss at Chattanooga State in December.

Gaston’s defense, which has held opponents to an average of 73.4 points per game outside of the Denmark Tech outlier, will face its toughest test in weeks. The Rhinos’ resume includes a road win at Pellissippi State and a victory over Cleveland State.

The matchup features a contrast in styles: Caldwell Tech’s explosive, perimeter-oriented attack versus Gaston’s more balanced approach led by Siler’s interior presence. The Cobras will need to find an answer for Siler while maintaining their offensive rhythm away from home.

Wednesday’s contest is the first of a regular-season series between the teams. They are scheduled to meet again at Caldwell Tech on March 4. The outcome could have early implications for conference standings as both teams pursue postseason positioning.

Tipoff is set for Wednesday night at Ashbrook High School.
