North Dakota St Science vs Dawson
GLENDIVE, Mont. (Interstat) — The Dawson Buccaneers, riding a three-game winning streak, will host the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Sunday at Dawson Community College.
The Buccaneers (12-6) enter with momentum after a tight 83-80 road victory at Western Nebraska on Monday. Dawson has shown resilience in close games, with its last three wins coming by a combined 10 points.
Dawson’s offense is powered by guard Kai Guess, who has been on a scoring tear. He dropped 21 points in consecutive wins over Western Nebraska and Northwest College and is averaging 18.3 points over his last three contests.
The visiting Wildcats (2-2) present a contrasting profile, having played only four games this season. They are coming off a dominant 118-75 home victory over Lake Region State on Jan. 8, where they showcased a high-powered offense.
North Dakota State College of Science is led by dynamic guard Cham Okey, who nearly recorded a triple-double in that win with 23 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists. Forward Jikany Deang added 16 points and 15 rebounds, giving the Wildcats a potent inside-outside combination.
This game will be a test of Dawson’s steady, battle-tested lineup against the Wildcats’ explosive but less-seasoned squad. The Buccaneers’ experience in tight fourth quarters could be a factor, while the Wildcats will look to control the tempo with their transition game and distributing guard play.
The teams are scheduled for a rematch in Wahpeton, North Dakota, on Feb. 8.
For Dawson, a win would solidify its strong mid-season form. For North Dakota State College of Science, a road victory against a 12-win opponent would mark a significant statement early in its schedule.
Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon in Glendive.
