Utah State Eastern vs Southern Idaho
Eagles Clash in Junior College Showdown Saturday
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (Interstat) — A marquee men’s junior college basketball matchup is set for Saturday when the Utah State Eastern Eagles visit the Southern Idaho Eagles in a battle of top-10 caliber teams.
Both teams enter with identical 13-win records, but Southern Idaho (13-1) holds a slight edge with just one loss on the season. Utah State Eastern (13-3) looks to rebound from its most recent result, a 74-81 road loss at Snow on Jan. 8. Southern Idaho, riding a nine-game winning streak, last played on Jan. 10, earning an 86-78 victory at Salt Lake.
The contest features a compelling individual matchup in the frontcourt. Utah State Eastern will rely on forward Isaac Castagnetto, who is coming off a double-double performance with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to Snow. Over his last three games, Castagnetto is averaging 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds.
Southern Idaho counters with its own versatile forward, Ace Reiser. In the win over Salt Lake, Reiser filled the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists. He has been a consistent contributor during the team’s streak, averaging 10.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists over the last three contests.
Utah State Eastern’s offense has shown potency, scoring 74 or more points in nine of its last ten outings. However, Southern Idaho’s defense has been stifling, holding opponents to 65 points or fewer in six of its thirteen wins this season, including a 94-50 rout of Colorado Northwestern on Jan. 8.
This game marks the first of two regular-season meetings between the Eagles squads. They will meet again in Price, Utah, on Jan. 29, and conclude the season series in Twin Falls on Feb. 26. Saturday’s result will provide an early benchmark in the Region 18 race.
Southern Idaho has not lost at home this season. Utah State Eastern’s three losses have all come on the road, including the recent setback at Snow.
Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, at the CSI Gymnasium.
