Colby vs Garden City
GARDEN CITY, Kan. (Interstat) — The Garden City Broncbusters will look to halt a two-game skid and protect their home court when they host the struggling Colby Trojans in a men’s junior college basketball matchup Wednesday night at Conestoga Arena.
Garden City (9-6) enters the contest after a pair of narrow conference losses, falling 87-85 to Cloud County and 92-83 at Dodge City last week. The Broncbusters will rely on guard Dasean Lewis, who has been a consistent force. Lewis is coming off a 20-point, six-rebound, seven-assist performance in the loss to Cloud County and scored 25 points in a one-point win over Cowley on Jan. 3.
Colby (2-11) seeks to find any momentum during a difficult season. The Trojans have lost three of their last four, including a 73-80 defeat at Fort Hays Tech on Saturday. A bright spot has been the play of Aliou Diallo, who led Colby with 19 points and five rebounds in that loss. Diallo also posted a strong all-around line of 17 points, six rebounds and five assists in a win over Hutchinson on Jan. 3.
The matchup presents a stark contrast in fortunes. Garden City has shown the ability to win close games and score in bunches, eclipsing 110 points in a December win over Barton. Colby has struggled defensively, allowing 80 or more points in nine of its 11 losses this season.
For the Trojans to pull an upset, they will need to contain Lewis and find secondary scoring behind Diallo. Gabe Njenga, who had 13 points and five rebounds against Fort Hays Tech, could be a key factor.
The Broncbusters aim to use their athleticism and home-court advantage to pressure Colby and ignite their transition game before hitting the road for a tough matchup at Coffeyville on Saturday. Colby returns home to face Butler (Kan.) on Saturday.
Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CST Wednesday.
