Polk State vs Daytona State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Interstat) — The Daytona State Falcons overwhelmed the Polk State Eagles from the opening tip, cruising to a lopsided 107-63 victory in a men’s junior college basketball game Wednesday night.

The most decisive phase of the contest was its outset, as Daytona State established immediate and total control with a blistering first-quarter performance. The Falcons erupted for 61 points in the opening period, fueled by relentless offensive efficiency and disruptive defense. Noah Mendy, the top star for Daytona State, set the tone early with a 3-pointer just 53 seconds into the game, part of his team-high 18-point effort in just 20 minutes of play.

Polk State, which entered the game with a 1-8 record, was never able to recover from the initial onslaught. The Falcons’ 61-point first quarter, which ended with a 61-24 lead, effectively decided the outcome before the game was 10 minutes old. Daytona State’s offensive execution was nearly flawless, shooting 16 of 28 from 3-point range for the game and posting an offensive rating of 136.0 points per 100 possessions.

Ryan Bewley recorded a double-double for the Falcons with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyrese Lacey dished out 10 assists to go with 10 points. Adrian Shackleton added 13 points and six rebounds. The Falcons dominated the glass, outrebounding Polk State 46-25, including a 15-7 advantage on the offensive boards.

Polk State, which fell to 1-9, was led by Eric Dailey’s 16 points. The Eagles struggled with their shooting, making just 21 of 53 field goal attempts and 3 of 11 from beyond the arc. They also committed 17 turnovers, which Daytona State converted into easy scoring opportunities during the game-defining first-quarter run.

Daytona State, which improved to 12-3, maintained its intensity in the second quarter, outscoring Polk State 46-39 to secure the 44-point margin of victory. The Falcons’ win probability was projected at 91.7 percent before the game by Interstat’s ELO system, a forecast they validated emphatically with their early explosion.

The Falcons next host Florida Southwestern State on Saturday. Polk State, mired in a nine-game losing streak, will look to regroup when it hosts Indian River State on Saturday.
