Polk State vs Daytona State

Preview: Struggling Polk State Faces Hot Daytona State in Citrus Conference Clash

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Wednesday when the surging Daytona State Falcons host the reeling Polk State Eagles in a Citrus Conference men’s junior college basketball game.

Daytona State (11-3) enters riding a five-game winning streak, including a 78-63 road victory over Santa Fe on Jan. 7. The Falcons have been dominant at times, averaging 82.1 points per game during their streak. A key catalyst is Seydina N’Diaye, who posted 16 points, four rebounds and five blocks in 23 minutes in a win over Eastern Florida State on Jan. 3.

Polk State (1-8) seeks to halt a seven-game skid. The Eagles are coming off a 95-81 home loss to Florida Southwestern State on Jan. 7. Their lone win came against Wake Tech on Nov. 1. Forward Ethan Simon has been a bright spot, recording a 13-point, 16-rebound double-double in a narrow 83-78 loss to Santa Fe on Jan. 3.

The matchup presents a classic challenge of momentum versus desperation. Daytona State has established itself as a conference contender with a deep roster and balanced scoring. Polk State, mired in a difficult stretch that includes four losses by six points or fewer, is in urgent need of a turnaround performance.

For the Eagles to pull an upset, they will need to control the tempo and find consistent scoring beyond Simon. The Falcons will look to leverage their depth and defensive pressure, led by rim-protector N’Diaye, to extend Polk State’s woes.

This game opens the conference schedule for both teams. Daytona State will host Florida Southwestern State on Saturday. Polk State returns home to face Indian River State on Saturday.
