Odessa vs Midland

Preview: No. 14-0 Midland Hosts No. 12-2 Odessa in Key JUCO Showdown

MIDLAND, Texas (Interstat) — An early-season showdown for junior college men’s basketball supremacy in West Texas is set for Monday night when the undefeated Midland Chaparrals host the rival Odessa Wranglers.

The game, scheduled for Jan. 12, 2026, at Chaparral Center, pits two of the region’s hottest teams. Midland enters with a perfect 14-0 record across all competitions, while Odessa boasts a formidable 12-2 mark.

The Chaparrals, riding high after a 105-84 rout of South Plains on Thursday, are led by standout guard Antoine Bo Hurns. Hurns is coming off a dominant stretch, averaging 23.5 points and 5.5 rebounds over his last two games, including a 27-point performance against South Plains.

Odessa counters with its own backcourt star in Ahmere Carson. The dynamic guard dished out eight assists and scored 19 points in just 20 minutes during the Wranglers’ 97-85 victory over South Plains on Jan. 5. Carson’s playmaking will be crucial against Midland’s relentless defense.

The Wranglers’ two losses this season were by a combined seven points, including a narrow 73-71 defeat at Collin County. Since that loss on Nov. 28, Odessa has won six straight games, most recently the win over South Plains where Jaiden Reynolds added 17 points and Ziyade Ndancky contributed 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Midland’s path has been marked by consistent dominance, with an average margin of victory of 24.6 points. Their closest contest was a 75-70 win over Pearl River on Nov. 20. In their last outing, Yeison Liberato (19 points) and Nicholas Anthony (18 points) provided strong support alongside Hurns.

This matchup is the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 12 in Odessa. Monday’s winner will gain a significant early advantage in the regional landscape.

Following this contest, Midland travels to face Frank Phillips on Thursday, while Odessa visits Western Texas.
