Coffeyville vs Pratt
COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (Interstat) — In a game defined by wild momentum swings and a near-historic collapse, the Coffeyville Community College Ravens escaped with an 87-80 overtime victory over the Pratt Community College Beavers in a men’s junior college basketball game Saturday.
The most critical phase of the contest was not the extra period, but a stunning second-half drought that saw a 22-point Coffeyville lead evaporate entirely. After a blistering first half where they shot 58% from the field and led 77-43 at the break, the Ravens went ice cold. They managed only 10 points in the entire second half, missing 15 of their 18 shot attempts and committing nine turnovers.
Pratt, conversely, locked down defensively. The Beavers, leveraging 11 steals for the game, held Coffeyville scoreless for stretches exceeding six minutes. A methodical 34-3 run across the third and fourth quarters, spearheaded by Hunter Vaughn’s game-high 31 points, brought Pratt all the way back. The Beavers tied the game and had a chance to win in regulation, but could not convert a final possession, sending the game to overtime tied at 80.
The Ravens, who entered the game with a 9-4 record, regrouped in the extra session. Ulysses Webb, who finished with 27 points and nine rebounds, keyed a 7-0 run to start overtime, effectively sealing the win. Coffeyville’s defense, which had faltered badly, stiffened to hold Pratt scoreless in the five-minute overtime period.
Webb’s performance marked a significant resurgence after scoring a combined 10 points in his previous two games. He was supported by Jack Sorrell’s 18 points and Tyson Tucker’s 10 points and seven assists. For Pratt, which fell to 1-12, Vaughn’s 31 points included six 3-pointers. Muna Godswill added 11 points and five rebounds.
Statistically, the game was a tale of two halves. Coffeyville finished shooting 48% from the field (30 of 62) and 52% from 3-point range (11 of 21), but those numbers were heavily inflated by the first-half explosion. Pratt shot 38% overall (26 of 69) and 41% from deep (12 of 29). The Ravens dominated the glass, 43-33, which proved crucial in weathering their scoring drought. Both teams struggled with ball security, combining for 30 turnovers.
Coffeyville improved to 10-4 with the win, while Pratt’s difficult season continued, dropping to 1-12. According to Interstat’s ELO system, Coffeyville had a 62.7% probability to win pregame.
The Ravens are scheduled to host Fort Hays Tech on Thursday. Pratt will host Hutchinson on Wednesday.
