Angelina vs Panola

CARTHAGE, Texas (Interstat) — Two men’s junior college basketball teams riding opposite momentum swings will meet Wednesday when the Panola Ponies host the Angelina Roadrunners.

Panola (6-6) enters fresh off its most impressive win of the season, an 87-72 road victory over Blinn on Saturday. The Ponies’ offense erupted, led by CJ Worsham’s efficient 19 points in just one minute of play. Worsham, a key player to watch, has been a consistent contributor, posting 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a win over Bossier Parish on Dec. 9.

Angelina (6-5) looks to rebound from a narrow 61-58 home loss to Paris that same day, its second consecutive defeat. The Roadrunners have relied heavily on forward Jordan Mathews, who scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss. Mathews has been a focal point, logging 35 minutes in two of the last four games.

The matchup features two teams with identical win totals but different recent trajectories. Panola’s blowout win showcased its offensive potential, while Angelina has struggled to find consistent scoring, failing to reach 70 points in three of its last four outings. The Roadrunners will need more production beyond Mathews; Daemon Ely and Clarence Payia combined for 17 points and 23 rebounds against Paris.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest is a toss-up, projecting a 100-100 draw. The result could hinge on which team controls the paint and capitalizes on transition opportunities.

Wednesday’s game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the Region XIV rivals. They will meet again in Lufkin on Jan. 28.

Following this game, Panola hosts Navarro on Saturday. Angelina returns home to face Tyler on Saturday.
