Oxnard vs Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Interstat) — Zykiar Henderson scored 39 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to power the Bakersfield College men’s basketball team to a 100-88 victory over Oxnard College in a California Community College Athletic Association game on Saturday.
The Renegades, who improved to 7-6, overcame a blistering offensive start by the visiting Condors by dominating the glass and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities. Bakersfield outrebounded Oxnard 51-30, including a decisive 23-4 advantage on the offensive boards.
The most important part of the game was Bakersfield’s relentless interior attack and rebounding response after a first-quarter shooting display from Oxnard. The Condors shot exceptionally well early, connecting on 50 points in the opening quarter, but could not sustain that pace. The Renegades, led by Henderson’s interior presence, weathered the early storm and gradually imposed their physical will. Bakersfield’s 23 offensive rebounds led to numerous extra possessions and points, offsetting Oxnard’s more efficient shooting percentage.
Henderson’s performance was comprehensive, adding two blocks in 35 minutes. Zach Garnett supported him with 17 points and seven assists, while Damari Davis contributed 21 points off the bench.
Oxnard, which fell to 5-9, was led by Jeremy Goodcase with 18 points and Jose Valdovinos, who also scored 18 points and dished out seven assists. The Condors shot 52.3% from the field but were hampered by 13 turnovers and the significant rebounding deficit.
Both teams finished with 82 possessions, but Bakersfield’s offensive rating of 122.1 outpaced Oxnard’s 107.2, highlighting the Renegades’ ability to generate more points per trip.
Bakersfield next plays at Los Angeles Pierce on Dec. 30. Oxnard’s next game is at home against Saddleback on Jan. 3.
