Oxnard vs Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Interstat) — Two Central Coast men’s junior college basketball teams seeking consistency will meet Saturday when the Bakersfield Renegades host the Oxnard Condors.
The non-conference matchup at Bakersfield College pits teams with nearly even overall records. The Renegades (6-6) have alternated wins and losses over their last six games, most recently falling 92-74 at El Camino on Wednesday. The Condors (5-8) have lost two straight, including an 81-72 home loss to Cuesta last Saturday.
A key matchup will feature two of the region’s top forwards. Oxnard’s Carter Reid has been a consistent force, averaging 21.4 points and 9.1 rebounds over his last eight games. He is coming off a 16-point, 9-rebound performance against Cuesta and recorded a 30-point, 16-rebound double-double against Los Angeles Trade Tech last month.
Bakersfield will counter with Zykiar Henderson, a dynamic scorer and rebounder. Henderson averages 20.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. He scored 23 points in just 21 minutes in the loss to El Camino and had a 27-point, 14-rebound game in a win over Moorpark.
Oxnard’s offense has fluctuated, scoring 87 and 81 points in wins earlier this month but being held to 65 and 72 in its two recent losses. Bakersfield has shown high-scoring potential, putting up 108 points in a win over Victor Valley, but has also been held under 75 points in three of its six losses.
The game is the final scheduled non-conference contest for both programs before they break for the holidays and resume their respective conference schedules in January. Bakersfield will travel to face Los Angeles Pierce on Dec. 30, while Oxnard’s next game is at home against Saddleback on Jan. 3.
Saturday’s tip-off is set for 5 p.m. PST at the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
