COMPTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Ventura Pirates defeated the Compton Tartars 83-65 in a California Community College men’s basketball game Wednesday night.

Jerimiyah Smith led all scorers with 23 points for Ventura, which improved to 10-3. Nathan Ibarra scored 16 points for Compton, which fell to 5-9.

Ventura established an early lead, taking a 38-30 advantage after the first quarter and maintaining control throughout. The Pirates’ defense held firm in the second quarter to secure the road victory. Snookey Wigington added nine points and six assists for Ventura. Elijah Evans contributed 15 points for the Tartars.
