Cloud County vs Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (Interstat) — The Hutchinson Community College men’s basketball team looks to build on a decisive road win when it hosts a struggling Cloud County Community College squad in a junior college matchup Saturday.

The Blue Dragons (6-5) are coming off an 82-66 victory at Dodge City on Wednesday, led by a near triple-double from guard Kyrell Shaw. Shaw finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and 11 assists in that contest, highlighting a run of strong performances. Over his last three games, Shaw is averaging 21.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists.

Hutchinson will face a Cloud County team mired in a five-game losing streak. The Thunderbirds (4-6) fell 72-68 to Coffeyville at home on Wednesday despite a 22-point effort from guard DJ Holloway. Holloway has been a bright spot during the skid, averaging 14.3 points over his last four outings.

The Blue Dragons have shown inconsistency but possess a notable win over then-undefeated Butler on Nov. 22. Cloud County’s last victory came on Nov. 19 against Seward County.

Saturday’s game at the Sports Arena tips off a key stretch for both teams before the holiday break. Hutchinson will rely on its backcourt of Shaw and Daleron Thomas, who added 15 points off the bench Wednesday. Cloud County will need more scoring support for Holloway, potentially from Elidjah Savane, who posted 12 points and seven rebounds last game.

The matchup pits Hutchinson’s recent momentum against Cloud County’s desperation to snap its losing streak. Following this game, Hutchinson travels to Colby on Jan. 3, while Cloud County hosts Pratt the same day.
