Angelina vs Bossier Parish
Roadrunners, Cavaliers Meet in Non-Conference Junior College Clash
BOSSIER CITY, La. (Interstat) — The Angelina College Roadrunners and the Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers will look to rebound from recent losses when they meet in a non-conference men’s junior college basketball game Saturday.
The Roadrunners (5-3) arrive after a tough 61-56 overtime defeat at home to Trinity Valley on Wednesday. Angelina led by eight at halftime but was outscored 13-8 in the extra period. Clarence Payia led the Roadrunners with 14 points and six rebounds in that contest, continuing a strong stretch for the sophomore. Over his last three games, Payia is averaging 11 points and 5.7 rebounds.
Angelina’s season has been marked by streaks, opening with two wins, followed by two losses, then two more wins before splitting its last two. The Roadrunners have shown defensive capability, holding four opponents under 62 points, but also have been held to 56 points or fewer in two of their three losses.
The Cavaliers (3-2) are coming off a 79-60 road loss to Panola on Tuesday. Prior to that, Bossier Parish had won two straight, including a narrow 63-62 victory over Navarro on Dec. 6. A key factor in that win was Zequan Lewis, who posted 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Lewis, a versatile forward, also recorded a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds in a win over Baton Rouge on Nov. 24.
Bossier Parish has found success at home this season, winning both of its games at the Billy Montgomery Gymnasium. The Cavaliers will look to leverage that home-court advantage against an Angelina team that is 1-2 in true road games.
The matchup features a contrast in recent momentum, with Angelina aiming to avoid back-to-back losses and Bossier Parish seeking to restart a winning streak after its setback earlier this week. The play of key forwards Payia and Lewis could be pivotal in the paint.
This is the only scheduled meeting between the two programs this season. Following this game, both teams break for the holidays before diving into their respective conference schedules in early January.
Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon.
