Motlow State vs Calhoun
Motlow State Bucks Look to Sweep Season Series Against Calhoun Warhawks
DECATUR, Ala. (Interstat) — The Motlow State Bucks visit the Calhoun Warhawks on Monday in a men’s junior college basketball rematch, seeking a regular-season sweep after a narrow victory less than two weeks ago.
Motlow State (5-3) edged Calhoun (1-4) 88-82 on Nov. 25 in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The Bucks enter on a two-game winning streak, including a 76-67 victory over Southwest Tennessee on Saturday. The Warhawks have dropped three straight, most recently a 118-106 shootout at Northwest Mississippi on Thursday.
A key matchup will feature Motlow State’s Sagna Ousseynou, who dominated the first meeting. The forward recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds in that win. Over his last four games, Ousseynou is averaging 11.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks, providing a consistent interior presence.
Calhoun will look for a stronger performance from guard Tahir Bond, who was held scoreless in 11 minutes during the November loss to the Bucks. The Warhawks’ offense has shown flashes, scoring over 100 points twice this season, but their defense has struggled, allowing an average of 95.2 points during their current skid.
Motlow State’s offense has been potent, averaging 84.6 points per game. Beyond Ousseynou, they have shown balanced scoring, with five players reaching double figures in their win over Southwest Tennessee.
For Calhoun, reversing their fortunes will require tightening their defense and finding more consistent scoring options to support Bond. Playing at home may provide a needed spark; their lone win this season was a 93-89 home victory over Pellissippi State on Nov. 22.
Following this contest, Motlow State continues a road swing at Albany Tech on Friday. Calhoun remains home to host Volunteer State on Saturday.
Monday’s tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CST at the Calhoun Gymnasium.
