Saddleback vs Mount San Jacinto

SAN JACINTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Saddleback Bobcats used a dominant offensive performance to hand the Mount San Jacinto Eagles their first loss of the season, winning a California community college men’s basketball game Saturday.

Saddleback secured an 86-71 victory on the road, improving its record to 4-2 while dropping Mount San Jacinto to 6-1. The Bobcats’ offense proved too efficient, scoring 86 points on 79 possessions for an offensive rating of 109.2, significantly outpacing the Eagles’ 71 points on 77 possessions and a 91.8 offensive rating.

The game was a tale of two halves defined by offensive execution. Saddleback built a substantial lead in the first half, heading into the break with a commanding advantage. While the Eagles managed to keep the second half scoring more even, they could not overcome the early deficit.

Christopher Williams led all scorers for Saddleback with 23 points, adding 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 33 minutes of action. He was instrumental in the Bobcats’ efficient attack. Charlie Stallings provided a major spark off the bench, contributing 20 points and 6 rebounds in just 24 minutes. Michael Bichel also scored in double figures with 15 points.

For Mount San Jacinto, Tyler Frazier-Mathews recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, alongside 2 blocks. Daniel Crawford and RJ Dawson each scored 15 points, with Crawford pulling down 7 rebounds and Dawson adding 5. Adrian Mosley facilitated the offense with a team-high 4 assists to go with his 12 points.

The statistical sheet highlighted Saddleback’s effective, if not always flashy, approach. The Bobcats shot 46.7 percent from the floor, making 28 of 60 attempts, while the Eagles struggled, hitting just 20 of 59 for 33.9 percent. From beyond the arc, Mount San Jacinto made 8 of 30 attempts, while Saddleback connected on 6 of 20.

A key differentiator was Saddleback’s performance at the free-throw line, where they capitalized on their opportunities by making 24 of 29 attempts. Mount San Jacinto was also effective from the line, making 23 of 28, but it was not enough to close the gap.

Saddleback also won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding the Eagles 40 to 36. However, Mount San Jacinto was more active on the offensive glass, grabbing 13 offensive rebounds to Saddleback’s 9. The Bobcats shared the ball slightly better, recording 8 assists to the Eagles’ 6, and were more disruptive defensively with 8 steals, leading to 18 Mount San Jacinto turnovers. Saddleback committed 14 turnovers of its own in a physical game that saw the Bobcats whistled for 25 fouls and the Eagles for 24.

The loss was the first blemish on Mount San Jacinto’s record this season, which included previous victories over Irvine Valley, Palomar, MiraCosta, Santa Monica, Los Angeles Southwest and Los Angeles Harbor. Saddleback, which had suffered its two losses to West Los Angeles and Ventura, has now won three consecutive games, including decisive wins over Oxnard, San Diego Miramar and MiraCosta.

Looking ahead, Mount San Jacinto will try to rebound quickly with a road game at Citrus on Tuesday. Saddleback’s next contest is at home against San Diego Mesa on Monday, Dec. 1. The result was an upset according to pregame projections, as Interstat’s ELO system had given Mount San Jacinto a 58 percent probability of winning.
