Los Angeles Trade Tech vs Chaffey

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (Interstat) — In a stunning reversal fueled by a dominant second-half performance, Los Angeles Trade Tech erased a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Chaffey 93-84 in a California Community College men’s basketball game Wednesday night.

The game unfolded as a tale of two halves, with the Chaffey Panthers appearing poised for a comfortable victory after a blistering offensive display in the opening period. Chaffey shot a remarkable 13 for 34 from three-point range in the game, with much of that damage coming early, and took a 50-45 lead into the break.

However, the second half belonged entirely to the visiting Beavers. Los Angeles Trade Tech tightened its defense, holding the Panthers to just 34 points after the intermission while its own offense found a consistent rhythm. The Beavers methodically chipped away at the lead, leveraging their efficiency inside the arc and capitalizing on opportunities at the free-throw line.

Will Smith III led the charge for the Beavers, scoring a team-high 23 points. He was instrumental in the paint, providing a steady scoring presence that countered Chaffey’s perimeter attack. Franklyn Chambers added 16 points and Jordan Webster contributed 18 points, with both players making key plays down the stretch to secure the victory.

The Beavers’ ball movement and defensive pressure were key differentiators. They tallied eight assists and eight steals, doubling Chaffey’s output in both categories. While Chaffey won the battle from beyond the arc, Los Angeles Trade Tech’s interior game and ability to draw fouls proved decisive. The Beavers attempted 25 free throws, making 19, compared to Chaffey’s 13 attempts, of which they made nine.

Despite the loss, Kameron Gardner was a standout for Chaffey, pouring in 19 points. Kajuan Thomas recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The victory was a significant one for Los Angeles Trade Tech, which evened its season record at 2-2. The result was particularly unexpected given pregame projections that heavily favored the Panthers. For Chaffey, the loss extends a difficult start to the season, dropping its record to 1-3.

Los Angeles Trade Tech will look to build on this momentum when it hosts Los Angeles Harbor on Nov. 20. Chaffey will aim to regroup quickly, with a road game at Canyons scheduled for Saturday.
