Yuba vs Fullerton
FULLERTON, Calif. (Interstat) — The Fullerton College Hornets remained undefeated Friday night, overcoming a torrid first-half shooting performance by the Yuba College 49ers to secure a 74-67 victory in a non-conference men’s junior college basketball game.
In a contest that defied pregame projections from Interstat, which had simulated a 100-100 tie but gave Fullerton a 91.3 percent probability to win, the Hornets improved to 3-0. Yuba, which had won its first two games, fell to 2-1.
The game was a tale of two halves, defined by a dramatic shift in offensive efficiency. Despite both teams having an identical 68 possessions, Fullerton’s offensive rating of 108.9 proved superior to Yuba’s 98.3, with the Hornets capitalizing more effectively on their opportunities, particularly from the free-throw line.
Yuba came out scorching, building a significant early lead. The 49ers poured in 40 points in the first quarter, showcasing an offensive rhythm that the Hornets struggled to contain. However, Fullerton weathered the storm, answering with 32 points of its own to stay within striking distance.
The momentum shifted decisively in the second quarter. The Hornets tightened their defense, holding Yuba to 27 points while erupting for 42 points themselves. The difference came down to discipline and execution. Fullerton shot 18 for 23 from the free-throw line, while Yuba managed only 8 of 13. The Hornets also won the battle from beyond the arc, making 10 three-pointers to Yuba’s seven.
Jaqari Miles led the Hornets with a game-high 18 points, adding 4 assists. Yoda Oke provided a crucial spark off the bench, scoring 17 points in just 24 minutes of play. Brayden Smith nearly recorded a double-double with 13 points and 9 rebounds.
For Yuba, Austin Ito led the scoring with 15 points. Taylen Goodman added 12 points and 6 rebounds, while Aidan Triplet just missed a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds.
The game was marked by sloppy ball-handling, with the two teams combining for 29 turnovers. Yuba committed 16, which Fullerton converted into key transition opportunities.
The victory extends Fullerton’s strong start to the season, following wins over West Valley and Sequoias. Yuba, which had previously defeated Sacramento City and San Diego City, will look to rebound in its next outing.
Fullerton is scheduled to play next at Compton on Tuesday. Yuba’s next game is at home against Feather River on Thursday.
