Los Angeles Harbor vs Orange Coast

COSTA MESA, Calif. (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Harbor Seahawks secured their first victory of the young season Thursday night, overpowering the Orange Coast Pirates 79-51 in a men’s junior college basketball game defined by defensive pressure and poor shooting from the hosts.

The Seahawks, now 1-2 overall, took control early and never relented. They built a 30-22 lead by the end of the first quarter and then exploded for 49 points in the second quarter to put the game out of reach, while holding Orange Coast to 29 points in the period. The Pirates remain winless at 0-4.

Los Angeles Harbor’s offense was efficient, scoring 79 points on 77 possessions for an offensive rating of 102.6. In stark contrast, Orange Coast managed only 51 points on 80 possessions, resulting in a meager offensive rating of 63.4. The shooting disparity was the story of the game. The Seahawks connected on 30 of 57 field goal attempts, a 52.6 percent clip, and shot a solid 8 of 17 from three-point range. The Pirates struggled immensely, making just 18 of 60 shots from the floor for 30 percent and a dismal 4 of 26 from beyond the arc.

Max Choi led a balanced Seahawks scoring attack with 15 points. Nate Guevara added 13 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Amire Jones provided a spark off the bench with 12 points. Drew Alexander contributed six points, four assists and two blocks, and Alton Jimmerson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in the victory.

Orange Coast was led by Chris Obiajulu, who scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds. Logan Barbee finished with nine points, four rebounds and five assists, but also committed multiple turnovers in a sloppy contest.

The game was marked by frequent miscues, with the two teams combining for 42 turnovers. Los Angeles Harbor committed 20, while Orange Coast was even more careless with the ball, giving it away 22 times. The Seahawks capitalized with 11 steals, matching the Pirates’ total.

Rebounding was another area of dominance for the visitors, as they outboarded Orange Coast 42-34. Both teams struggled at the free-throw line, with Los Angeles Harbor making 11 of 21 attempts and Orange Coast hitting 11 of 20.

The loss extends a difficult start for Orange Coast, which has lost its games by an average of 30 points. The Pirates were projected as slight favorites to win by Interstat’s ELO system, which gave them a 50.60 percent probability of victory, but they were unable to live up to that expectation on their home floor.

Los Angeles Harbor will look to build on this win when they host San Diego Mesa on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Orange Coast will attempt to find its first victory when it welcomes San Diego Miramar on Thursday, Nov. 13.
