Southwestern Christian vs Odessa

ODESSA, Texas (Interstat) — The Odessa College Wranglers delivered an overwhelming performance Thursday night, dismantling the visiting Southwestern Christian College Rams 101-60 in a men’s junior college basketball game.

The contest was effectively decided in a stunning first-half offensive display by the Wranglers. Odessa erupted for 61 points in the opening quarter, establishing a commanding 27-point lead by the end of the period and never looking back. They extended their dominance in the second quarter, outscoring the Rams 40-26 to take a 101-60 lead into halftime, a margin that held for the final score as the game consisted of only two quarters.

Odessa’s victory was built on superior efficiency and control on both ends of the floor. The Wranglers scored 101 points on 72 possessions, an elite offensive rating of 139.5, while the Rams managed just 60 points on 75 possessions for an offensive rating of 80.1. The Wranglers shot 51% from the floor, connecting on 39 of 76 attempts, and were particularly effective from beyond the arc, making 13 of 28 three-pointers.

Southwestern Christian struggled with its shooting throughout the game, finishing 20 of 53 from the field, a 38% clip, and a frigid 6 of 26 from three-point range. The Rams also had difficulty at the free-throw line, converting only 14 of 25 attempts.

Odessa dominated the rebounding battle, pulling down 57 total rebounds compared to 37 for Southwestern Christian. The Wranglers’ prowess on the offensive glass was a key factor, as they secured 21 offensive rebounds, leading to numerous second-chance opportunities. The Rams managed only five offensive boards.

Ball security and distribution further highlighted the disparity between the teams. Odessa committed just six turnovers while dishing out 10 assists and recording 10 steals. Southwestern Christian, by contrast, turned the ball over 15 times and registered only three assists and three steals.

Jaiden Reynolds led the Wranglers in scoring, pouring in 20 points in just 22 minutes of play. Qwes Williams provided a strong all-around contribution with 11 points and eight rebounds. The Odessa offense was facilitated by a trio of players—JD Bradford, Darius McGlashen and Lawrence Mitchell—who each tallied five assists.

For the Rams, Nicholas Smith was the leading scorer with 13 points. TahJavion Hurndon added nine points.

The game began with Odessa setting an immediate, relentless pace. After Southwestern Christian’s Donny Thomas missed the game’s opening shot, the Wranglers’ Ziyade Ndancky ignited the home crowd with a dunk just 37 seconds into play. This sparked a 15-3 run for Odessa, fueled by three-pointers from Qwes Williams, Nate Jackson and Jaiden Reynolds, forcing the Rams to play from behind from the outset. The Wranglers’ offensive barrage continued unabated for the entire first quarter, with their lead swelling to as many as 34 points before settling at 61-34.

The second quarter saw more of the same, with Odessa maintaining its intense pressure. The Rams could find no answer for the Wranglers’ efficient scoring and stifling defense, and the lead grew to the final 41-point margin.

With the win, Odessa improves its season record to 6-1. Southwestern Christian falls to 4-5 with the loss. The Wranglers are scheduled to host Pearl River on Friday, while the Rams will travel to face New Mexico Military Institute.
