Los Angeles Valley vs Moorpark

MOORPARK, Calif. (Interstat) — In a high-octane, season-opening men’s junior college basketball game on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, the Moorpark Raiders overwhelmed the visiting Los Angeles Valley Monarchs, 105-78, in a contest defined by offensive efficiency and defensive pressure.

The Raiders seized control from the opening tip, erupting for 55 points in a dominant first quarter and never looking back. They entered halftime with a commanding 105-55 lead after adding another 50 points in the second quarter. While the Monarchs found more offensive rhythm after the break, the first-half deficit proved insurmountable.

Moorpark’s victory was built on a foundation of superior shooting and ball security. The Raiders shot 54.5 percent from the floor, connecting on 42 of 77 attempts, including 10 three-pointers. They were also efficient from the free-throw line, making 11 of 13. More critically, Moorpark’s offense was ruthlessly effective, scoring 105 points from just 80 possessions for an offensive rating of 131.0.

Defensively, the Raiders forced 18 Monarch turnovers, converting them into easy scoring opportunities. Moorpark tallied 10 steals and 5 blocks, with Markus Steele contributing two of those blocks to go with his 10 points and six rebounds. The Raiders also won the battle on the glass, out-rebounding Los Angeles Valley 39-33, including a 13-7 advantage on the offensive boards.

In contrast, Los Angeles Valley struggled with the Raiders’ intensity. The Monarchs shot 45.6 percent from the field but were hampered by their 18 turnovers. They scored 78 points from 81 possessions, resulting in a significantly lower offensive rating of 96.5. Will Young led the Monarchs with a team-high 20 points, while Andy Porcayo added 15 points.

Moorpark’s attack was a balanced and deep effort, with six players scoring in double figures. Josh Castaniero orchestrated the offense with a team-high six assists to go with his 12 points. Eric Kubel and Noah Cotton each scored 13 points, with Cotton adding five rebounds and three steals. Clyde Seo (12 points), Dominique Brutus (11 points), and Aeneas Grullon (11 points, four assists) provided a potent scoring punch off the bench, highlighting the Raiders’ depth.

The game’s opening minutes set the tone. After the Monarchs took an early 2-0 lead, Castaniero answered with a three-pointer for Moorpark, sparking a first-quarter onslaught. The Raiders consistently generated steals and defensive stops, leading to a barrage of transition baskets and open looks. A three-pointer from Jake Field in the final minute of the first quarter pushed the Moorpark lead to 55-35, capping a period of near-flawless basketball.

With the win, Moorpark begins its season 1-0, while Los Angeles Valley starts 0-1. The Raiders are scheduled to host Los Angeles City College on Sunday, Nov. 2. The Monarchs will look to rebound in their home opener, also on Sunday, Nov. 2, against San Diego Miramar.
