Three Rivers vs Jones
JONES, Miss. (Interstat) — In a high-octane offensive showcase, the Jones Bobcats opened their season with a decisive 99-85 victory over the Three Rivers Raiders in a men’s junior college basketball game Tuesday night.
The game was defined by contrasting styles, with Jones capitalizing on superior efficiency from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line, while Three Rivers dominated the glass but was ultimately undone by a staggering number of turnovers.
Jones, playing its first game of the season, improved to 1-0, while Three Rivers fell to 2-3.
The Bobcats set the tone early, erupting for 57 points in a blistering first quarter. Their offense was fueled by a remarkable shooting performance, finishing the night 10 of 15 from three-point range and 29 of 33 from the free-throw line. The Raiders, despite a strong 37-point opening quarter of their own, could not keep pace with the Bobcats’ offensive firepower.
Braylon Barnes led all scorers for Jones with 29 points, demonstrating his efficiency by making 10 of 15 free throws and connecting on three shots from deep. Jay Tyler orchestrated the offense, adding 25 points and a team-high six assists. Wesley Lindsey provided a significant spark off the bench with 14 points and five rebounds.
The Raiders were led by the standout performances of Antonio Williams and Matt Hampton. Williams recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Hampton poured in a team-high 26 points. Sikou Diagouraga was a force inside, pulling down 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes of play.
Despite shooting 50 percent from the floor and holding a commanding 43-28 advantage in total rebounds, including a 14-4 edge on the offensive glass, Three Rivers was plagued by ball security issues. The Raiders committed 17 turnovers, which the Bobcats converted into numerous transition opportunities. Jones, by contrast, gave the ball away only six times.
The Bobcats’ defensive pressure was also a key factor, as they recorded 12 steals compared to just four for the Raiders. Bob Dickson was instrumental in that effort, tallying six steals to go along with six assists.
The game’s statistical profile highlighted the difference in offensive execution. Jones scored its 99 points on 83 possessions, an offensive rating of 119.7. Three Rivers managed 85 points on 79 possessions, an offensive rating of 108.1.
The contest was the season opener for Jones, which was projected as a solid favorite by Interstat’s ELO system. Three Rivers, coming off a two-game winning streak after victories over Triton and Sauk Valley, saw that momentum halted. The Raiders will look to rebound on the road Friday against Wabash Valley. Jones returns to action Thursday at Bishop State.
