Doane (NE) vs Dordt (IA)
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (Interstat) — A tight Great Plains Athletic Conference men’s basketball race continues Saturday when the Dordt Defenders host the Doane Tigers in an NAIA matchup.
The game, set for Jan. 17, 2026, is a quick rematch of a Dec. 6 contest won 79-77 by Doane on its home floor. That result adds intrigue as Dordt (10-9) looks to defend its home court and even the season series, while Doane (7-8) aims for a crucial road sweep.
The Defenders enter seeking to halt a three-game skid, most recently a 102-80 home loss to Morningside on Wednesday. Despite the defeat, forward Judson Henkel continued his strong play with 15 points and nine rebounds. Henkel has averaged 12.8 points and 6.2 rebounds over his last five outings, providing consistent interior production for Dordt.
Doane arrives with momentum from a convincing 82-63 road win at Midland on Wednesday. The Tigers were led by forward Jack Wilson, who scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds in just 23 minutes. Wilson has been a key two-way contributor, averaging 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks over his last four games. His presence will be critical against Dordt’s frontcourt.
Beyond the stars, both teams rely on secondary scoring. Doane’s Justus Gardiner (18 points vs. Midland) and Casen Chaney (14 points, 7 assists) offer balance. Dordt counters with Connor Millikan, who dropped 20 points in the loss to Morningside, and Ty Van Essen (17 points).
With both teams clustered in the GPAC standings, this contest carries significant weight for postseason positioning. Dordt holds the better overall record, but Doane’s recent head-to-head victory and road win at Midland suggest a closely contested battle in Sioux Center.
Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday at Dordt’s campus arena.
