The Hawkeyes led 33-31 at halftime but were outscored 41-40 after intermission, holding on for a one-point victory before a crowd of 14,717. The result was an upset according to pregame projections, as Florida entered as a substantial favorite. The Gators’ late rally fell just short, dropping their record to 27-8. Iowa improved to 23-12 and advanced in the tournament. The combined score went under the betting total of 144 points.
