Towson vs. Hofstra

Hofstra Aims to Extend Dominance Over Towson in Colonial Clash

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — A surging Hofstra squad looks to continue its recent mastery of Towson when the Colonial Athletic Association rivals meet in a men’s Division I basketball game Monday at CareFirst Arena.

The Pride (22-10) have won both matchups this season, including a decisive 71-49 victory on Feb. 7. Hofstra enters on a three-game winning streak, coming off a 92-61 rout of William & Mary on Sunday where guard Cruz Davis scored 30 points in just 29 minutes. Davis averages 18.2 points per game and has topped 20 points in four of his last eight contests.

Towson (19-14) counters with its own hot hand in sophomore guard Tyler Tejada, who is averaging 22.1 points over his last five games. Tejada poured in 35 points in a win over Hampton on Saturday and followed with 30 points in Sunday’s 81-56 road victory at College of Charleston.

Despite the Tigers’ recent offensive burst, winning five of their last seven, history favors the Pride. Hofstra has won the last four meetings between the programs. According to Interstat’s ELO system, Hofstra holds a 56% probability to win Monday’s contest.

The game could hinge on backcourt play. Tejada’s scoring prowess will be tested against a disciplined Hofstra defense that has held opponents to an average of 60.3 points during its current win streak. Davis provides Hofstra with a versatile offensive catalyst capable of both scoring and facilitating.

A Hofstra win would solidify its position near the top of the CAA standings heading into the conference tournament, while Towson seeks a statement victory to bolster its postseason resume and reverse a troubling trend against its league foe.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT.
