East Tennessee State at Citadel
CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — The East Tennessee State Buccaneers look to snap a three-game skid when they visit The Citadel Bulldogs in a nonconference men’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at McAlister Field House.
East Tennessee State (8-5) enters having lost close contests to Austin Peay and Jacksonville State before a decisive defeat at then-North Carolina. The Buccaneers are 6-0 at home but just 2-5 on the road this season.
The Citadel (3-10) seeks to end a five-game losing streak, all by double digits against a challenging schedule that included road games at South Carolina, Davidson and Richmond. The Bulldogs are 2-3 at home.
A key matchup will feature East Tennessee State’s Cam Morris against The Citadel’s Braxton Williams. Morris, a versatile forward, is coming off a 17-point, four-rebound, three-block performance in the 81-75 loss to Jacksonville State on Dec. 20. Over his last five games, he is averaging 11.2 points and 2.0 blocks.
Williams provides the primary scoring punch for The Citadel. The guard erupted for 24 points in a narrow 82-78 loss at College of Charleston on Dec. 17 and is averaging 12.6 points over his last five outings.
In ETSU’s most recent game, Brian Taylor added 20 points and Jaylen Smith had 15 points and five assists alongside Morris’s effort. For The Citadel in its 80-56 loss at Richmond, Carter Kingsbury had eight points and three assists while Logan Applegate added 10 points off the bench.
This game serves as a final nonconference tune-up for both programs before they open Southern Conference play on Jan. 3. The teams will meet again in league action on Jan. 24 in Johnson City, Tenn.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
