Gonzaga Dominates Oregon State Behind Ike’s 35 Points
CORVALLIS, Ore. (Interstat) — Graham Ike scored 35 points and Gonzaga, responding emphatically after a rare loss, overpowered Oregon State 81-61 in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball game Saturday night at Gill Coliseum.
The Bulldogs, coming off a road defeat at Portland earlier in the week, never trailed and methodically dismantled the Beavers by dominating the interior and capitalizing on nearly every Oregon State mistake. Gonzaga improved to 23-2 overall, while Oregon State fell to 13-13.
The most important stretch of the game came early in the second half, when Gonzaga transformed a competitive contest into a decisive rout. Leading 38-34 at halftime, the Bulldogs opened the final period with a 15-4 run over the first 4 minutes, 27 seconds. The surge was fueled entirely by paint attacks and free throws, highlighted by a steal and breakaway dunk from Tyon Grant-Foster. That sequence pushed the lead to 53-38 and forced an Oregon State timeout, effectively extinguishing any home-court momentum. The Beavers would never get closer than 13 points the rest of the way.
Ike, a 6-foot-9 forward from Aurora, Colorado, was the central force, making 14 field goals and adding seven free throws in 38 minutes of work. His performance inside was the cornerstone of a staggering Gonzaga advantage in points in the paint, which finished at 50-10. Grant-Foster added 15 points for the Bulldogs.
Oregon State, which hung tough in the first half largely due to 10-of-18 shooting from 3-point range, could not sustain that precision after the break. The Beavers were outrebounded 32-20 overall and managed just three offensive rebounds. Dez White led Oregon State with 12 points and six assists, while Isaiah Sy added 13 points and Yaak Yaak contributed 11.
Gonzaga’s efficiency was stark. The Bulldogs committed only two turnovers, converting them into 13 points, while Oregon State’s eight turnovers yielded just two points for the Beavers. Gonzaga also held a 7-0 edge in fastbreak points. The Bulldogs shot 57.1% from the field overall and made 14 of 16 free throws.
The victory was a return to form for Gonzaga following its 87-80 loss at Portland. Ike continued a dominant stretch, having scored 30 points against Saint Mary’s and 24 at Portland in his two previous games.
Oregon State, which had won two of its last three, struggled to find consistent offense outside of its perimeter shooting. The Beavers shot just 44.2% from the field inside the arc and were outscored 43-27 in the second half.
A crowd of 7,865 watched at Gill Coliseum.
Gonzaga next hosts Washington State on Tuesday. Oregon State travels to face San Francisco on Thursday.
