Colorado State at Wyoming
Preview: Colorado State at Wyoming in Mountain West Clash
BOSLER, Wyo. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in a crowded Mountain West Conference race will meet Saturday when the Wyoming Cowboys host the Colorado State Rams at Arena-Auditorium.
Both teams enter the contest with identical 12-9 overall records, each looking to rebound from decisive road losses this past Wednesday. Colorado State fell 73-50 at San Diego State, while Wyoming was defeated 94-62 at Utah State.
The matchup features two of the league’s standout guards. Wyoming will rely on high-scoring junior Leland Walker, who is averaging 21.1 points over his last seven games. He poured in 24 points in the loss to Utah State and had a 30-point performance against Boise State on Jan. 20.
Colorado State counters with sophomore floor general Jevin Muniz, who leads the Rams in assists. Muniz is coming off a nine-point, five-assist effort at San Diego State and has shown scoring ability with 14-point outings against Boise State and Grand Canyon earlier this month.
The Rams have struggled recently, losing five of their last seven games. Their offense stalled badly against the Aztecs, managing only 50 points—a season low. Prior to that, they suffered a narrow 65-61 home loss to Utah State.
Wyoming’s season has been marked by volatility, with a 32-point loss to the Aggies preceding a 66-62 home win over San Jose State. The Cowboys are 8-3 at home this season, including a dominant 98-66 victory over UNLV earlier in January.
Saturday’s game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the border rivals. They will meet again in Fort Collins on Feb. 14. The Rams hold a narrow 90-86 lead in the all-time series, which dates back to 1910.
For both squads, this contest represents a critical opportunity to stabilize their conference standing before the final month of the regular season. Wyoming visits San Diego State next Tuesday, while Colorado State’s next game is at home against San Jose State on Feb. 7.
Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. MST. The game will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
