Agee’s Double-Double Leads Aggies Past Sooners in SEC Clash

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Interstat) — In a Southeastern Conference clash defined by physicality and precision from the free-throw line, Texas A&M used a dominant first-half performance and clutch late plays to hold off a persistent Oklahoma squad 83-76 on Saturday afternoon at Reed Arena.

A crowd of 9,096 saw the Aggies (13-3, 2-1 SEC) build a commanding 48-45 halftime lead, a margin that proved critical as the Sooners (11-4, 1-2) mounted several second-half charges but could never overtake the home team. The difference was stark at the charity stripe, where Texas A&M converted 21 of 25 attempts while Oklahoma managed 13 of 16. That eight-point advantage at the line ultimately decided a game where both teams made an identical 26 field goals.

The most important sequence of the contest came not during Oklahoma’s rallies, but in the game’s final minute as Texas A&M sealed the victory. Leading 79-76 with under 40 seconds to play, the Aggies ran a critical possession that bled the clock. The ball found its way to Rashaun Agee in the post, and the 6-foot-7 senior from Chicago powered through contact for a layup with 38 seconds remaining, pushing the lead to 81-76 and effectively extinguishing Oklahoma’s hopes. The Sooners, forced to foul, then sent Pop Isaacs to the line, where he sank two free throws with 16 seconds left to provide the final margin.

Agee was the cornerstone of the Aggies’ effort, posting a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds in 27 minutes, adding two assists and two blocks. His interior presence and timely scoring, including the crucial late basket, anchored Texas A&M. He was complemented by a balanced scoring attack that saw four other Aggies reach double figures: Ruben Dominguez and Rylan Griffen each scored 14, Isaacs added 13, and Marcus Hill chipped in 10.

Oklahoma was led by the high-scoring duo of Nijel Pack and Derrion Reid. Pack, the 5-foot-10 guard from Indianapolis, poured in a game-high 24 points, including six three-pointers, and dished out five assists. Reid, a 6-foot-8 forward from Grovetown, Georgia, recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Tae Davis also notched a double-double for the Sooners with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The game’s statistical profile highlighted the Aggies’ more efficient and disciplined performance. Despite identical shooting numbers from the floor (26-of-62 for both teams) and from three-point range (Oklahoma 11-of-31, Texas A&M 10-of-33), the Aggies won the turnover battle decisively, committing only eight giveaways while forcing 15 from Oklahoma. That led to a 12-2 advantage in steals and a 19-9 edge in points off turnovers. Texas A&M also distributed the ball more effectively, recording eight assists to Oklahoma’s four.

Oklahoma’s resilience was on display throughout the second half. After falling behind by as many as 13 points early in the period, the Sooners used a 12-2 run, fueled by three-pointers from Pack and Reid, to claw back to within 60-57 with just over 15 minutes to play. Each time the Sooners threatened, however, Texas A&M had an answer, often from the free-throw line or with a critical stop. A Reid layup with 6:45 left brought Oklahoma to within 69-71, but the Aggies responded with a 5-0 spurt to rebuild a cushion they would not relinquish.

The victory extends Texas A&M’s winning streak to three games as they head into a challenging two-game road trip at Tennessee and Texas. The Aggies improved to 10-1 at home this season. Oklahoma, which had won five of its last six coming in, sees its two-game conference win streak snapped and must regroup quickly with a home game against Florida next on the schedule.

According to Interstat’s ELO system, Texas A&M entered with a 69.6% probability to win and covered the pregame spread of -5.5. The total score of 159 fell under the over/under line of 165.5.
