Oral Roberts at Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. (Interstat) — The Oklahoma Sooners used a dominant second-half performance to pull away from the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles for a 95-71 victory in a non-conference men’s basketball game Thursday night at Lloyd Noble Center.

A crowd of 5,765 watched the Sooners improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Golden Eagles fell to 2-4.

The game was competitive through the first half, with Oklahoma taking a 42-24 lead into the break. The Sooners then exploded for 53 points in the second half to secure the comfortable win.

Oklahoma’s offense was fueled by a powerful inside presence and efficient guard play. Mohamed Wague, a 6-foot-10 forward from the Bronx, New York, led all scorers with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field, adding a block in 22 minutes of action. Guard Nijel Pack, from Indianapolis, provided 18 points, while fellow guard Xzayvier Brown of Philadelphia dished out four assists to go with nine points in 31 minutes. Forward Tae Davis also chipped in 13 points for the balanced Sooners attack.

Oral Roberts was led by Ofri Naveh of Neot Golan, Israel, who scored 13 points. Connor Dow, a native of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, added 12 points for the Golden Eagles, and Yuto Yamanouchi-Williams of Aizuwakamatsu, Japan, contributed 11 points off the bench. Jack Turner from Los Angeles facilitated the offense with a team-high five assists.

The Sooners seized control early with a 9-0 run to open the game, capped by a Nijel Pack three-pointer and a floating jumper. Oral Roberts struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the first half, shooting just 24 percent from the field before intermission.

Oklahoma’s lead ballooned in the second half as they consistently found easy baskets, particularly from Wague near the rim. The Golden Eagles showed more life offensively after halftime, scoring 47 points, but could not mount a significant challenge against the Sooners’ sustained offensive pressure.

The game was part of a challenging early-season schedule for Oral Roberts, which faced its second major in-state opponent after a loss to Oklahoma State earlier this month. The Golden Eagles will look to rebound on the road at Florida Gulf Coast on Monday.

Oklahoma, coming off a high-scoring loss to Nebraska in its previous outing, will return to action at home against Alcorn State on Sunday. The Sooners were heavy pregame favorites and played to that expectation, using their size and depth to overwhelm the visiting Golden Eagles.
