Villanova at Saint John`s

NEW YORK (Interstat) — A pivotal Big East clash with conference tournament seeding implications awaits Saturday when Villanova visits Saint John’s, with both teams carrying identical 22-6 records into a sold-out Carnesecca Arena.

The showdown, set for Feb. 28, 2026, is a rematch of Saint John’s 86-79 victory at Villanova on Jan. 17. That result adds a layer of urgency for the visiting Wildcats, who have since won seven of their last eight games. Villanova is coming off an 82-73 home win over Butler on Wednesday, led by 20 points from guard Acaden Lewis.

Lewis has been a catalyst for Villanova’s surge, averaging 15.6 points and 5.1 assists over his last eight contests. His backcourt duel with Saint John’s standout Zuby Ejiofor will be central. Ejiofor, a versatile force for the Red Storm, is averaging 15.6 points, 4.4 assists and 2.0 blocks over his last seven games, including a 25-point, 5-assist performance in an overtime win over Xavier on Feb. 9.

However, Saint John’s enters seeking redemption after a stunning 72-40 road loss at Connecticut on Wednesday, a game in which Ejiofor was held to six points. Prior to that defeat, the Red Storm had won seven straight, a run that included an 81-72 victory over those same Huskies on Feb. 6.

Both teams boast potent offenses, but Villanova’s recent defensive form — holding opponents under 75 points in nine consecutive games — will be tested by a Saint John’s squad that averaged 79.4 points during its winning streak. The Wildcats have shown resilience on the road, with key victories at Creighton and Xavier this month.

With the Big East tournament looming, Saturday’s result will be crucial for securing a double-bye. The atmosphere at intimate Carnesecca Arena, where Saint John’s is 13-1 this season, promises to be electric for this high-stakes, top-10 matchup.
