Oklahoma at LSU

Preview: Oklahoma Sooners at LSU Tigers

BATON ROUGE, La. (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the middle of the Southeastern Conference standings meet Saturday when the Oklahoma Sooners visit the LSU Tigers at the Maravich Assembly Center.

Both squads enter the final weekend of February with nearly identical records and something to prove. Oklahoma (14-13, 4-10 SEC) seeks its first road conference win since early February, while LSU (15-13, 5-9) aims to build momentum after a marathon victory its last time out.

The Sooners are coming off a 91-79 home win over Auburn on Tuesday, powered by a standout performance from forward Mohamed Wague. The player to watch for Oklahoma, Wague scored 18 points and blocked four shots in that contest, part of a recent surge that includes a 24-point effort against Texas A&M on Feb. 21. His interior presence will be critical against an LSU defense that has been inconsistent.

The Tigers are riding high after a draining, 106-99 double-overtime win at Mississippi on Wednesday. Guard Max Mackinnon was the undeniable hero, playing all 48 minutes and pouring in 34 points. Mackinnon, LSU’s key player, has carried a heavy offensive load, scoring 27 or more points in three of his last six games. His stamina and scoring punch will be tested against an Oklahoma team allowing an average of 78.6 points in SEC play.

Recent results highlight both teams’ volatility. Oklahoma’s win over Auburn snapped a two-game skid, but the Sooners have lost eight of their last 12. LSU’s dramatic win halted a four-game losing streak, with the Tigers having lost seven of their previous nine.

The matchup pits Oklahoma’s recent offensive efficiency — the Sooners have scored 90-plus points in three of their last five games — against an LSU team that has shown it can win shootouts, as evidenced by the 106-point output at Mississippi.

With the SEC Tournament looming, both the Sooners and Tigers need a win to improve their seeding and bolster potential postseason resumes. Tipoff is set for Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026, in Baton Rouge.
