Oral Roberts at South Dakota

VERMILLION, S.D. (Interstat) — The South Dakota Coyotes will look to get back to .500 in Summit League play when they host the struggling Oral Roberts Golden Eagles on Thursday night at the DakotaDome.

South Dakota (11-11, 3-4 Summit) is coming off a 90-78 home loss to Saint Thomas (Minn.) on Saturday. The Coyotes have shown resilience at home this season, posting a 7-3 record in Vermillion, including conference wins over Denver and Missouri-Kansas City last month.

A key to South Dakota’s success will be the continued high-level scoring of guard Jordan Crawford. The junior is averaging 21.4 points over his last five games, including a 27-point performance in a road win at Omaha on Jan. 21. He leads the team in scoring and is coming off a 22-point effort against Saint Thomas.

Oral Roberts (5-17, 0-7) arrives mired in a nine-game losing streak, with its last win coming on Dec. 13 against non-Division I Ecclesia. The Golden Eagles are still seeking their first conference victory after Saturday’s 86-58 defeat to North Dakota State.

Guard Cal Furnish has been a steady presence for Oral Roberts during the skid, averaging 5.0 assists over a recent three-game stretch. However, the team has struggled offensively, failing to reach 70 points in six of their seven conference losses.

The Coyotes won both meetings last season. South Dakota’s ability to contain Crawford will be critical for Oral Roberts, while the Coyotes must avoid a letdown against a league opponent still searching for its footing.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Thursday. South Dakota will host North Dakota State on Saturday, while Oral Roberts travels to face South Dakota State.
