Long Island at Fairleigh Dickinson
HACKENSACK, N.J. (Interstat) — A surging Long Island men’s basketball team will look to extend its win streak when it visits struggling Fairleigh Dickinson in a Northeast Conference matchup Saturday at Rothman Center.
The Sharks (10-7, 4-0 NEC) have won four straight games, all in conference play, to vault to the top of the early league standings. The Knights (5-12, 2-2), meanwhile, have lost three of their last four and are coming off a 65-55 non-conference road loss to New Haven.
Long Island is powered by guard Jamal Fuller, who has averaged 18.2 points during the win streak. He is coming off a 23-point performance in a 67-63 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) last Saturday. Greg Gordon added 22 points in that win.
Fairleigh Dickinson will counter with forward Taeshaud Jackson, a consistent force on the boards. Jackson is averaging 12.3 rebounds over his last four games, including a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double in a 70-63 win over Chicago State on Jan. 8.
The Sharks have found success with balanced scoring and clutch play, winning their last two games by a combined six points. Their defense has also been key, holding Chicago State to 55 points earlier this month.
The Knights have struggled offensively against high-major competition in non-conference play but have shown flashes in NEC action. Protecting home court will be critical for Fairleigh Dickinson to climb the conference ladder.
Saturday’s contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs. Long Island will look to maintain its momentum before a quick turnaround at Le Moyne on Monday. Fairleigh Dickinson hosts Wagner next Monday.
